Abstract

In vitro morphogenic response of leaf explants of Physalis peruviana has been reported. Shoots developed directly on explants without any intervening callus phase when leaf explants were cultured on Murshiage and Skoog medium (MS) supplemented either with BA alone or in the combination with IAA or NAA. The Auxins 2,4-D, 2,4,5-T, IAA or NAA produced only roots from the explants. Efficient regeneration resulting in maximum number of adventitious shoots was obtained on MS medium augmented with 2.85M IAA and 13.20 M BA. Highest frequency of root formation on leaf explants was observed on media supplemented with7.8 M 2,4,5-T or 4.52 M 2,4-D. Rooting of regenerated shoots occurred on hormone free MS medium.
