Abstract

A field experiment was carried out at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Rahmatpur, Barishal during the Rabi season of 2020-21 to know the effective and economic weed control method for groundnut cultivation. The treatments of the experiment were: T1= Control, T2= One hand weeding at 20 DAE, T3= One hand weeding at 20 DAE + Hand weeding at 40 DAE (W4), T4= BARI mechanical weeder at 20 DAE, T5= One hand weeding at 20 DAE + BARI mechanical weeder at 40 DAE and T6= Spraying of Weednil at 20 DAE@ 1.5 ml/L. There are significant differences in all parameters except plant height and forage yield. The highest plant population/m2 was observed in treatment T3 (23.67Nos.) and lowest one was in treatment T1 (14.00Nos.). The highest number of weeds drives from the treatment T1 (211.67 Nos.) and lowest number of weeds was found in the treatment T3 (49.67 Nos.). The highest plant height was found in the treatment T5 (56.13cm) and the lowest one was in T6 (46.07cm). In the case of the number of pods per plant, the highest was found in T3 (26.16 Nos.) and lowest one was in T1 (14.23Nos.). In the case of the number of seeds per plant, the highest was found in T5 (2.00 Nos.) and lowest one was T1 (1.77Nos.). The maximum 1000 seed weight was found in T3 (514.4g) and the minimum in T1 (455.745g). The highest seed weight/plot was found in T3 (2156.5g) and lowest in T1 (673.7g). Yield per hectare, the highest yield was found in T3 (1797.1kg) and the lowest in T1 (561.4 kg). In the case of the forage yield, the highest forage yield was found in T4 (11.04 kg) and lowest in T5 (7.47 kg). In the case of the weed dry weight, the highest weed dry weight was found in T1 (553.56 g) and the lowest in T5 (173.14 g). So, T3 treatment was recommended as the best eco-friendly effective weed management practice for Rabi season groundnut production in Barishal districts of Bangladesh.
