Abstract

Present study envisages occurrence of fresh water snails in different 5 localities uf Doon Valley viz. Dhalipur and Badowala (Asan river), Dudhlee (Suswa river), Nepalifarm and Gularghati (Song river) during January, 2008 to December, 2008. In all, 10 species of snails namely Bellamya benga/ensis (Lamarck 1822), B. crassa (Benson, 1836), B. dissimi/is (Mueller, 1774), /*Ianoìdes tuberculala (Mueller, 1774). Lymnaea (Pseudusuccinea) acuminala Lamarck, 1822, Lymnaea (Pseudosuccinea) luteola Lamarck, 1822, Indoplanorbis exustus (Deshayes, 1834), Gyraulus convexiusculus (Hutton, 1849), G. barrackporensis (Clessin, 1886) and Physa acuta Draparnaud 1805 belonging to 6 different families were recorded. L. acuminala and L. luteola were recorded from all the habitats of selected sites, while G. barrackporensis and P. acuta have been recorded for the first time from the valley. At river beds, high percentage of M. tubercu/ata was recorded while high abundance of L. acurninala was observed at ponds. P. acula and 1. exustus contributed high percentage at canals and paddy fields respectively.
