Abstract

An Observation has been made on length-weight relationship and relative condition factor of a freshwater fish Barilius barna collected from April 2020 to March 2021 in the spring-fed Tamsa River of Doon Valley by using conventional fishing methods. Ninety-nine specimens of B. barna were grouped sex-wise for the measurement of length-weight and further statistical analysis. The correlation coefficient for females was noticed as a maximum (0.9781) when compared to males (0.9468) and pool data (0.9611) indicating a strong positive correlation among variables (LW). The value of the regression coefficient was nearly equal for females (2.0371) and pool data (2.0354), while it was slightly lower (2.0094) for the male fishes, all exhibiting negative allometric growth. Maximum relative condition factor (Kn) values 0.946, 0.962, and 0.953 respectively for the males, females, and pool data were observed in January, expressing good health of the fishes and also revealing comparatively suitable ecological conditions of the aquatic habitat.
