Abstract

The use of electronic aids in teaching and learning has steadily increased in Nigerian education, particularly at the tertiary institution level. From employing only desktop PCs to improve test materials preparation and results processing in the 1980s, the practice has evolved to include a wide range of technologies for instructional purposes today. Technology specialists who provide continual professional development have been a crucial component of the success of some of the institutions. This study used a questionnaire-based field survey to investigate how technology education lecturers (as master trainers) are incorporating technology into their teaching and learning, taking into account a number of related variables such as Technology Adoption in Teaching and learning, Challenges to Technology Adoption, Technology Anxiety among Lecturers, Available Technology Training Opportunities, Effects of Age, Gender and Teaching Experience of the Lecturers on Technology Adoption and other technology education lecturers’ characteristics that will contribute positively to the adoption of available technology-based instruction for improved quality of teaching and learning in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Technology adoption in instruction by technology education lecturers falls as perceived challenges and technology fear increase; yet, technology adoption increases when technology availability increases and technology lecturers employ colleagues as training sources. The study also revealed that difficulties to technology integration, technology anxiety, and the utilization of colleagues as a source of training account for a major amount of the variation in technology adoption for instruction among technology education lecturers in North-East, Nigeria.
