Abstract

Sudan National Grid has experienced a continuous growth in loads over the past ten years, along with a lack of production and congestion in transmission substations and lines. This led to numerous blackouts. The Static Var Compensators (SVC) project was suggested as one of the solutions to this issue in order to increase the voltage in the National Grid (NG) by providing appropriate reactive power supply at the nine designated locations in order to address voltage instability issues. This study reassesses the project, particularly in light of the significant change that happened in the NG. The nine suggested substations (Port-Sudan (POR), Hag-Abdallah (HAG), Farooq (FAR), Mahadiya (MHD), Kuku (KUK), Local market (LOM), New Hasahisa (NHAS), Bagair (BAG), and Gamueia (GAM)) will all be evaluated and demonstrate its influence on the total National Grid voltage.
